Thousands of people gathered at the Independence Square in Accra yesterday 24th September 2022 for the launch of the Global Citizen Festival.
The festival which has been celebrated for the past ten years debuted for the first time in Ghana and it’s aimed at sensitizing people to take action for girls, the planet and to create change.
When the guest of honor President Akuffo-Addo mounted the stage to address the teeming crowds, a section of the crowd started booing him: “Awaaaaaay! Awaaaaaaay! Awaaaaaaaaaay!” However he continued his speech and concluded as the shouts died down.
This embarrassing episode has displeased Kwame Baffoe aka Abronye Regional Chairman of the Bono Region who has responded to the crowd who booed the President to unleash their anger towards ex President Mahama and not towards President Akuffo-Addo.
In a facebook post monitored by afropolitanonline.com Abronye flared up: “The “Away Away” won’t bring back our Port that was sold by John Mahama for 35 years at just GHS 7 billion dollars to his best friend Vincent Bollore (Meridian Port Services) in 2015. Termination of this agreement will cause the nation $21 billion”.
Chairman Abronye further hinted: “The Ghanaian Youth who are calling for the coming of JM should just add 35 years to his current age. Someone sold your destiny when he was in power or government and you’re still calling for his comeback. It is John Mahama who deserves Away Away Away Away and not someone who even in the middle of pandemic is engaging in several developmental projects”.
Abronye who is reputed for discrediting President Mahama has raised yet another damning issue in his response which I am sure would generate another debate about the performance of President Mahama whose prospects of winning the next 2024 election is bright in the wake of the economic downturn of the country.
