Calls by a group of over three scores NPP MPs for Kenneth Kuntunkununku Ofori-Atta to be dismissed by President Akuffo Addo as Finance Minister have gained traction. Several citizens have given mixed reviews of the incident. Whilst some party fanatics are happy about the incident, a great number of party faithful have viewed the action of the MPs as an act of disloyalty and a stab in the back of the President.
These calls were earlier trumpeted by some high profile members of the opposition NDC about three months ago when they revealed the colossal amount of money Data Bank, an investment bank, founded by the finance minister Kenn Ofori-Atta, Kelly Gadzekpo and Togbe Afede XIV, was making from loans it helps the Government to secure from the international financial markets.
This story line has somehow poisoned the minds of a great majority of Ghanaians against Kenn Ofori- Atta and dented the image of Data Bank.
What happened yesterday 25th January 2022 at Parliament with NPP MPs demanding the President removes Ofori-Atta is a mere extension of the heinous, biased, misleading and uninformed story line pushed by the minority NDC to court disaffection for Kenn Ofori-Atta whose works were evaluated by London-based magazine The Banker in May 2018 and was adjudged Best Africa Finance Minister.
The actions of the MPs have given credence to the vile assertions of some leading opposition NDC MPs and placed ammunition into the hands of its foot soldiers to use against the ruling NPP on any day.
Now, what message will the NPP carry across, when issues of the nation’s economy and the country’s financial positions are raised?
