Human progress to some extent has often been borne out of Competition. Competition is therefore good for the human spirit.

In politics, struggle for positions of power is initiated through campaigns. And sometimes during such campaigns otherwise known friends transform into foes as people rally behind their favorite competitors or opponents creating factions within a once united group.

The intensities of rivalries tend to weaken the love and affection within the group and break the bonds of trust. For competitors and their supporters dredge the past of fellow competitors and paint disgusting and negative images of them. Some invent lies and peddle same about their opponents just so to look good before electorates and get leverage over their competitors.

The effects of the lies, treachery and smear campaigns often remain alive even after winners and losers have emerged from the elections and this tend to create a tense atmosphere within the group.

Whilst most leaders allow the wounds of distrust and hurt to fester and threaten the fabrics of unity and love in a group, one man has initiated steps to address these post elections’ wounds and fractures.

On 11th October 2022, the selfless and the indefatigable NPP Chairman for Akim Oda constituency Mr Ampaabeng Assimeng set up a conflict resolution and reconciliation committee to address the post elections problems. The members include Mr. Kofi Anifori, former Constituency Treasurer, Madam Elizabeth Osei, former Disciplinary committee member, Abubakari Zakari , Muslim Chief and a former  Polling station Chairman and Georgina Esuman, Party Elder.

The Committee which has been given a four year mandate is to be chaired by Hon. Andrews Abrokwah. The committee has been tasked to resolve all conflicts issues and address grievances which arose during and after the internal elections of the constituency through the process of conflict resolution and reconciliation. The move is to bring all party loyalists on board to rally support for the party even as it prepares for election 2024.

In an interview with afropolitanonline.com, Chairman Ampaabeng, hinted: This is the first of its kind in the constituency. I took a cue from the 2008 general elections in which our great party lost with a slim margin.  He further stressed: ” I am doing a sweeping drive starting from party faithful who lost elections at 1. Polling stations, 2. Electoral area coordinators ,3. Parliamentary elections and 4. Constituency executive elections.  I am bringing all hands on deck so we could win the 2024 elections”.
