It came as a surprise to many ordinary Ghanaians when Mr. Boakye Agyarko, the first appointed Energy Minister in the Akuffo Addo led government was sacked in 2018.

For weeks, many party faithful wondered why the party stalwart and the former manager of Nana Akuffo Addo’s Presidential campaign was booted out of the government without reason.

Boakye Agyarko caught the attention of Ghanaians through the display of his brilliance at the vetting committee of Parliament as he explained in great detail how Ghana’s power fluctuation problems could be solved permanently.

To a cross-section of Ghanaians and party faithful alike, Mr. Agyarko came on board the cabinet team of the President as an intelligent man with a myriad of corporate experiences and international exposure who could have helped the government to achieve its targets in the Energy ministry.

Since then, there have been speculations that the former Energy Minister was removed because President Akuffo-Addo was unhappy with his handling of an agreement to extend an existing five-year deal with United Arab Emirates-based AMERI Energy to operate a 300MW emergency power plant.

Mr. Agyarko has unfortunately remained quiet on the circumstances leading to his dismissal to the surprise of Ghanaians, giving chance for the speculations to gain steam.

Boakye Agyarko who told OB, host of the popular Ekosiisen program, on Asempa Fm on 20 June 2022 that he’s has been a friend of the President since 1976, further revealed that he has not spoken to the President since he was sacked- a storyline many listeners and observers find it difficult to believe.

Reverend Elisha Asare Bediako, a leading member of the New Patriotic Party of the Akim Oda Constituency in an interview with afropolitanonline.com hinted that ‘Boakye Agyarko’s silence on the reasons for his dismissal is a tactic to court public sympathy for him. He quizzed: “How can a competent man who has been a friend of the president for over four decades be sacked from his government for no reason? Such narratives are for kindergarten children”.

Do you think Boakye Agyarko should say what occasioned his dismissal?
