Sunday, June 12th, 2022, marked the departure of Kotoku Royals’ days with the Division One League and their triumphant entry into the Ghanaian Premier Football League.

It was a sight to behold as the gallant young royals played a draw with the equally strong side Tema Youth at the Tema Sports Stadium, topping the group with 63 points.

Joyous celebrations thundered through the stadium when the referee whistled to end the goalless match.  Chants of jubilation followed as the team travelled from the Industrial Port City of Tema to Accra.

The shouts and screams of joy continued as their seventeen (17) buses full of supporters droned through the busy streets of Pokuase-Amasaman stretch towards Kotoku’s twin towns of Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Adeiso, Asamankese, through to Akroso, Manso, Asene and finally to Akim-Oda.

Supporters were surprised to meet the town awake as teeming jubilant supporters -men, women, and children- lined the principal streets with some seated at roadside bars happily waiting to give the team a rapturous welcome home.

An uncountable number of Disc Jockeys assembled large speakers and blasted sounds even as women cheered the President of the club Mr. Linford Asamoah for his dream and praised MP Akwasi Acquah for sponsoring the team.

When asked about the way forward for the team, MP for Akim Oda Akwasi Acquah a major sponsor of the team hinted: “I have gone beyond the excitement and I’ve begun thinking about how we can maintain ourselves in the premier league for that’s what’s important; for we have come to stay”.

In an exclusive interview with https://afropolitanonline.com, President of Kotoku Royals Mr. Linford Asamoah said: “It’s time to strategize and equip ourselves for the battles ahead. In the Premier League every team comes prepared so we would have to work very hard to make headlines”.

When asked if he feels his team would do well, Linford Asamoah was quick to add: “Mark it on the wall. We will perform creditably well in the premier league”.

Meanwhile, the life Patron of the team, His Royal Majesty Frimpong Manso IV, King of Kotoku Kingdom has promised the team that he will use every means possible to resource the team so they remain in the premier division and win the coveted Premier league cup. For now, several million pairs of eyes will be watching Kotoku Royals perform in the premier league. The beginning is bright. Let’s wait for the Premier League to begin.
