Choose Bawumia to Lead NPP in 2024 or We Defect – Group Threatens Party

A group of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters in the Northern Region has threatened to defect or quit politics if the party’s executives and delegates do not put in concerted and calculated efforts to elect Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of the Republic, as the party’s flagbearer in the 2024 general elections.

The group, led by one Alhaji Mohammed Bamba, a one-time Nasara Coordinator aspirant and founder of the Bawumia Fun Club, says the Vice President is the only winsome candidate among those who have so far been tipped to contest for the party’s flagbearership.

In a chat with the GNA monitored by Afropolitanonline, Alhaji Bamba claims Dr Bawumia was the brain behind the NPP’s victory in both the 2016 and 2020 elections and thus any attempt to ditch him for any other candidate would not be countenanced.

“If we make a mistake to replace the Vice President, there will be mass defections in the party, especially of those from the North” Alhaji Bamba claims.

Alhaji Bamba also touched on the public perception of the NPP as an Akan party saying some people’s belief that the NPP is an Akan party that would never allow anyone from the North or of Northern extraction to lead the party would be given credence should the party fail to elect Dr Bawumia.

“We believe such negative perceptions will be confirmed if the party decides to drop Dr Bawumia just as happened against the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama” Alhaji Bamba emphasized.
