For weeks now, special trade license plates which are given to cars cleared from harbors awaiting sales or registration are nowhere to be found.
Ten of thousands of drivers and car dealers who are need of the special trade license plates popularly called DV plates have stormed the premises of the Driver Vehicle and Licensing Authority (DVLA) in search of the plates for their vehicles.
Their hopes were dashed after officers of the DVLA plainly told them on Thursday 17th February 2022 evening that they don’t know as to when some of the plates would be printed.
The situation is very sad as drivers of unregistered vehicles can’t ply the roads and car dealers can’t sell cars for onward registration. When afropolitanonline contacted DVLA for response, its officers declined to speak on the matter.
Meanwhile, officers of the Ghana Police Service have been deployed to check cars with fake documentation and licenses.
How can a government agency refuse to sell special trade license plates to drivers and car dealers but goes around saying it needs revenue? How can the government refuse the sale of the license plates but the same government deploys police officers to make arrest of drivers without special trade license plates? It’s only in Africa where a government refuses to supply citizens with a necessity but arrests and prosecutes them for not having that necessity. Is government really in need of revenue?
