RISING COST OF LIVING WILL HURT THE ELECTORAL FORTUNES OF NPP COME 2024.

The ruling New Patriotic Party under the distinguished leadership of Nana Akuffo-Addo has achieved milestones in its five years of governance.

Its flagship programs have made phenomenal impacts across the country. The Free SHS program has increased access to secondary education for young students who for lack of financial assistance would have thrown away their dreams of pursuing secondary education. The planting for Food and Jobs initiative, has seen increased yields in farm produce across the nation.  One District One Factory program has seen factories sprung up across the length and breadth of the country employing over one hundred thousand people. The National Builders Corps program has recruited over a hundred thousand graduates who prior to this government were unemployed.

However, these gains seem to have been forgotten as the rising cost of living continues to bite the citizenry. New taxes- Covid Tax, E-Levy-which have been introduced by government to cushion the economy have brought pressure on the citizenry.

Calls on government for safeguards by civic society organizations, opposition leaders and backbenchers seem to have fallen on deaf ears. Wanton increases in fuel prices with its corresponding increases in fares and commodities have stirred the public against the government.

Afropolitanonline.com asked two thousand six hundred and seventy eight (2678) people across the 16 regions of Ghana about their perception of conditions in the country. Over one thousand seven hundred and twenty three representing 64.33% of the audience said the conditions in the country are very hard.

We posit that come 2024, the electoral fortunes of the ruling NPP will be negatively impacted by the rising cost of living if the government fails to take steps to improve the economic conditions in the country.
