Renowned business man, former President of the National House of Chiefs and former member of the council of state, Togbe Afede XIV has refunded his exgratia to the state.
Citing reasons for his refund the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli state in the Volta region, said among other things that he considered the ex gratia inappropriate for him to take considering he worked on part-time basis and was paid for his work among other privileges.
The noble businessman refunded an amount of three hundred and sixty five thousand cedis (GHC 365,000) paid him as an erstwhile member of the council of state to the Controller and Accountant General Department’s account.
An interview conducted by afropolitanonline.com about the gesture Togbe Afede XIV has shown gathered complimentary commentaries from our audience. Accra based business woman Sylvia Opare Addo said: ‘Politicians who have served in high offices and have made money serving the country should emulate the example of the king”. Reverend Emmanuel Dziwornu of Ejisu said: ‘If Ghanaians can always remember that giving back to society is worthwhile, our society will be better”. Kalima Sani a practicing nurse in Akim-Oda said: “Togbe Afede is one of a kind in Ghana. Considering the kind of things he does to help people, I’m not surprised he could do such a great move”.
