WE WILL NOT RELY ON REGIONALISM, ETHNICITY AND RELIGION BUT ON SERVICE TO THE PARTY-AKOSA OF ALAN CAMPAIGN TEAM HINTS

Chief Alan Kyeremanteng who until last week was the minister for Trade and Industry since the onset of the Nana Akuffo Addo led government has embarked on a massive campaign in a bid to lead the New Patriotic Party going into the 2024 General Elections.

The timing of his resignation has been dubbed as timely, accurate and perfect by some party faithful who believe in the capacity of the former Trade Minister to deliver a win for the party in the 2024 General Elections.

Pundits and pollsters have begun their work estimating the chances of Alan Kyeremanteng, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia and Kennedy Ohene Agyapong who have been touted as the leading contenders in upcoming flag bearer’s election.

Whereas some party supporters have sought to play the religious, ethnic and regionalism cards, Kwabena Okyere Akosa, a leading member of the Alan campaign team has indicated that the Alan campaign will not be playing the cards of regionalism, religion and ethnicity.

In an interview with afropolitanonline.com, Mr Akosa averred: “We (ALAN Campaign teams) are not basing our campaign on the positive remarks President Akuffo-Addo has made about Chief Alan. Instead we will remind delegates to reward Alan for his long service to the party just as was done for Nana Addo”.

He further hinted: “We will not argue with those who are sworn enemies of Alan’s bid to be President. Rather we will remind them of what they said in 2007 and 2014 Presidential primaries. If Nana Addo was elected based on his long service to the party and was voted for; then what has changed now, if Alan is also bidding on the same principles? Alan should not be sacrificed for Bawumia who is also a newcomer in the party. Dr. Bawumia must surely wait for his time and that would be after Alan. The delegates will surely reward Alan for his long service which reward would not  be based on ethnicity and religious factors or any propagandist “Dankwa-Busia-Dombo” diatribes”

The various campaign teams have laced their boots to march across the length and breadth of Ghana to convince delegates as to why their candidate is the best for the New Patriotic Party. And indeed, longevity of service and commitment to the party would definitely be weighed against religion, ethnicity and regionalism. However, the ultimate votes rely on the delegates.
