If you’ve ever travelled the road to Dansoman from what is popularly known as Hansonic Junction, you will find a dusty road stretching parallel to the tarred road upwards.
On the Asoredanho stretch towards Wesley Grammar or Mataheko Mass area, just about 20 meters from the SSB Bank and the Quality Insurance building, one meets a small roundabout. Just adjacent to the roundabout also known as sharp curve, the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly has erected a building on the dusty road.
The section of the road which the assembly has put up its building was previously occupied by mechanics. These mechanics were forcibly removed with some of the cars belonging to their clients seized by the assembly and put on a plot adjacent to the Glory land Hotel on the Odorkor Kaneshie road.
The seizure, the mechanics say, is unfair because they have been asked by the Assembly to pay some huge sums of money before they could have them back.
The one storey building, which was constructed by Clean Vision Ghana Limited, is now occupied by the assembly. Meanwhile the permit for the concrete structure is temporary one.
In a city where residents complain of buildings haphazardly erected; sometimes blocking storm drains, streams and roads, one wonders how the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly an appendage of the Central Government could. Put up an office on a place reserved for a road.
One would ask how can the Municipal Assembly whose task forces travel around the municipality day and night; breaking structures such as containers, kiosks and houses and other concrete buildings it deems had been raised illegally make a u-turn to erect a storey building on a road?
Some residents close to the site of the structure, who resolved to speak to Afropolitanonline.com on grounds of anonymity, hinted that they’re at a loss as to how the Municipal Assembly has turned a blind eye knowing that particular spot to be part of the road.
When Afropolitanonline.com contacted Mr Samuel Festus Attoh, the roads engineer of the Assembly, he declined to comment and asked that we contact the MCE for answers. Attempts to reach the works engineer to respond to the development at the time of filing this report proved unsuccessful.
Many have wondered as to why the Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey has not shown up to break the building down as he’s been doing to structures of ordinary citizen built on roads and waterways.
