Those of us calling on NPP delegates to elect Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong as our flag bearer do not hate any of our party stalwarts who are also vying to lead our party.Neither are we saying those who have laced their boots to contest are not equally qualified.
However, there are some realities we delegates should not gloss over for us to regret later. The NPP has a guaranteed 45% of the voter population and the remaining 6 -7% always vote for us based on trending economic conditions and other realities in the country.
The truth is that, currently the mantra even among the die-hard supporters of the NPP is that they would not vote at all again in the upcoming general elections. And if that’s coming from our people then we have an uphill struggle before us.
7% floating voters we need to win power have made up their minds to ditch the NPP by a research we conducted a little over a month ago.
Fortunately for us, the moment Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong declared his intention to contest for the party flag bearership position, the scenes and realities on the ground began changing and the usual statements by ordinary Ghanaians in that regard has been “If you were to bring Kenn then we shall vote”.
This is not to say that other contenders for the flag bearership race are not good, but the reality is that of all the leading contenders for our party’s flag bearership race were in our government and they couldn’t help fix the difficulties we are going through as a nation. And the question a lot of Ghanaians are asking is that, “If they had anything extraordinary to do, why didn’t they help the president to fix the problems?”
And that’s where the man Kennedy Agyapong comes in as an outstanding candidate among them. Hon Ken Ohene Agyapong can ginger our support base once again and kill the apathy syndrome that has gotten into the minds of our sympathizers.
Did not the NPP suffer the same voter apathy fate in 2008? And what was the outcome? So if we love our party then, we shouldn’t be blinded by selfish interests. Let’s look and consider the realities on the ground and present a candidate who despite all the difficulties we are going through can still ginger our support base and capture a significant number of floating voters for us to be able to break the 8. Nobody is against any person or group pf persons supporting other candidates.
Let’s face reality and ask ourselves the question: “ Is our party as attractive as it used to be in 2016 or even in 2020?. The answer is NO. Let us not ignore the realities on the ground only for us to bite our fingers later. KEN CAN DO IT.
